Metal Box Storage: Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you?

Can I drive my car/van to my storage unit?

Yes, unlike other storage options you can drive right up to your container. It couldn’t be easier!

When can I access my storage unit?

You have free and unlimited access to your container 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Do I need to provide a padlock?

No, we will provide you with a tamper-proof padlock.

When can I move in?

You can move in on the same day as you make your enquiry providing that you have the relevant documentation needed to complete and sign your contract. This will include photographic ID and a recent (within 3 months) utility bill or bank statement showing your name and current address. Minimum one months payment in advance – to be made prior to moving in and a refundable deposit equivalent to 1 months rent (excluding VAT & any agreed discount).

Financial and legal questions:

How do I pay?

We accept payment by standing orders and direct debit. Sorry, we cannot accept cash payments.

Do I need insurance?

Yes your goods must be adequately insured while in storage with us. Check your home/business contents insurance to make sure your goods are covered when in storage. We will need to see proof of this. If not we can recommend competitive insurance, please contact us for details.

What is the minimum rental period (and the maximum)?

The minimum rental period is one month and you can store with us for as long as you want (Discounts offered for longer term storage)

How do I end my storage agreement?

We require one week’s notice or 1 month’s notice if you are a long-term storer of your intention to vacate your storage container. We request that notice be given in writing directly to us (by post or email). When you collect your items we ask that you leave your container empty and clean and any rubbish disposed of. Once your unit has been vacated (on the agreed date) and passed our inspection, we will refund your initial security deposit minus any outstanding fees.

Can I put anything into storage?

We can accept most things for storage but there are some exceptions. We cannot accept

  • Explosive or hazardous goods
  • Illegal goods
  • Vehicle tyres
  • Hazardous waste of any kind including asbestos
  • Perishable goods
  • Chemicals
  • Firearms or ammunition
  • Toxic waste of any kind
  • Pollutants or contaminated goods
  • Compressed gasses
  • Petrol or any substance subject to combustion
  • No livestock
Will my storage be safe?

Yes, absolutely. Our steel storage containers provide excellent durability and protection. All containers are wind and waterproof, ventilated. If required, we can add condensation protection. Our site is protected by 24 hour CCTV and has passive infrared security floodlighting and security perimeter fencing.

What else should I know before booking?
